In 2018, as part of Brookhaven Lab's robust Waste Diversion Program, the Lab reused nearly 22 tons of government-owned computers and other electronic equipment and sent 53 tons to a certified electronics recycler. To encourage Laboratory staff to recycle their own personal electronics, the Lab's Environmental Protection Division hosts an annual collection event where items such as electronic toys, TVs, cell phones, and radios are accepted. Equipment accepted at the event is added to the regular Lab-generated electronics recycling stream.
