Jan F. Nygård

Head of Registry Informatics Department, Cancer Registry of Norway

Dr. Jan F. Nygård received his engineering degree in Cybernetics from Oslo College of Engineering in 1991, a minor in Political Science (1998) and a PhD in Epidemiology (2005) from the University of Oslo. He worked at the Institute of Community Medicine, University of Oslo from 1992 to 1998, and from 1999 at the Cancer Registry of Norway. Since 2007, he is the head of the Registry Informatics Department. His research interest lies in the cross-section between machine learning, data privacy, secure federated computing, and epidemiology. He has published 86 original research papers in peer-reviewed journals, and supervised MSc and PhD students from both informatics and medical faculties. He serves on several reference and steering committees. From July to December 2017, he was a visiting scientist at the Institute for Applied Scientific Computing at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. From 2021, he is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Machine Learning Group, Department of Physics and Technology. UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
