EVENT: PubSci, Brookhaven National Laboratory's science café and conversation series, is bringing science to the pub with an event on March 7 titled, “Big Bang Physics and the Building Blocks of Matter.” Researchers will discuss how Brookhaven’s Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC)—the only operating particle collider in the U.S.—recreates the same matter that filled the early universe moments after the Big Bang. The audience will be engaged in a lively conversation framed around several questions:

  • How did the universe take shape?
  • What binds matter together?
  • How can we answer these questions at Brookhaven?

All are welcome to come, join the conversation, and talk about science in plain language with our three speakers:

  • Ofer Rind, Technology Architect, RHIC and ATLAS Computing Facility, Physics Department, Brookhaven National Laboratory
  • Gene Van Buren, STAR Experiment Software & Computing Co-Leader, Physics Department, Brookhaven National Laboratory

The Snapper Inn in Oakdale, NY will provide a casual setting for a conversation on the physics of our universe and the Big Bang. Admission is free, and seating is first come, first served. Menu and bar items will be available for purchase. Note that this event is a second showing of a previous PubSci event that took place during a snowstorm on Nov. 15, 2018.

WHEN: 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2019

WHERE: The Snapper Inn, 500 Shore Dr., Oakdale, NY 11769

DETAILS: PubSci is a science café presented by Brookhaven National Laboratory's Stakeholder and Community Relations Office. PubSci brings expert scientists to public venues to discuss cutting-edge topics and research in an informal setting.
