Memorial Day Ceremony Held at Brookhaven Center

Louis Gerlach

To commemorate Memorial Day, the Brookhaven Veterans Association (BVA) hosted a ceremony at the flagpole in front of the Brookhaven Center on Friday, May 22. During the traditional ceremony, a red, white, and blue wreath was placed at the base of the flagpole while the guest speaker, Gene McSherry, Commander of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 2476, Riverhead, NY, spoke on the importance of remembering the contributions of our armed forces, not just on Memorial or Veterans’ Day, but every day. In keeping with classic tradition, BVA member Louis Gerlach played taps on a trumpet followed by a moment of silence.

The BVA was established in March 2007. Membership is open to BNL employees, retirees, and employees of the Brookhaven Site Office of the U.S. Dept. of Energy, who are or were on active duty, reserve, retired or have received an honorable discharge from the U.S. military service.
