Erik Johnson

Erik has enjoyed a varied career at BNL, starting with a ‘temporary’ postdoctoral position at NSLS in 1985 focusing on surface chemistry.  He stayed on and progressed through a series of scientific staff appointments in the beamline group, working with others to develop a wide range of instruments for synchrotron science and technology.  He served as Deputy Director for the NSLS-II project from 2013 to its completion in 2015 with prior roles including Deputy ALD for Programs in the Photon Sciences Directorate, Interim Chair of NSLS, and in the Accelerator Systems Division for the NSLS-II project both as Deputy Director and Interface Manager.

He takes this range of experience into his present role helping to develop and manage project activities within NSLS-II ranging from working in an advisory capacity to assuming roles within projects, most recently as Project Manager for the Laboratory for BioMolecular Structure construction. He also serves on project review and advisory committees for DOE and for other facilities across the complex.
