Scott Buda has dedicated his 39-year career at Brookhaven to the safety and reliability of the Lab’s synchrotron facilities: NSLS-II and formerly NSLS.
During his years at the original NSLS, Scott led a diverse group of technicians and engineers as head of the radiofrequency group, Chief Electrical Engineer, and head of the personnel safety systems. Scott was involved in a majority of the electrical engineering projects at NSLS, ensuring the facility’s highly reliable operations and the safety of its staff and users.
Today at NSLS-II Scott is the Personnel Protection Systems Group leader responsible for the design, construction and management of the personnel protection and equipment protection systems. He also serves as the deputy Electrical Engineering group leader for the Accelerator Division.
Expertise
Scott’s main area of expertise is safety instrumented systems for the protection of personnel. He has many years of experience implementing safety PLC’s in safety systems. These personnel protection systems are NSLS-II’s first line of defense in protecting the facility’s hundreds of employees and thousands of users from exposure to intense x-rays, while the equipment protection systems defend against faults that can cause programmatic damage in the million-dollar range to one of the Nation’s premier light sources.
Scott also contributes to the design and management of high current power supply systems and the AC utility infrastructure of the facility with upgrades and new designs.
