Motivation

Only invited attendees can register for this virtual workshop.

The Northrop Grumman/Brookhaven Lab Workshop will bring researchers together to explore possible collaborations and deliver impactful research. The virtual workshop will be led by Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and co-organized with Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) for two half-days on May 4–5, 2021 (12:30–5:00 p.m. EST). The workshop will feature presentations by researchers from across the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Lab system and question-and-answer sessions. A moderated discussion will be held at the end of each session to identify topics for follow-on collaborative discussions. We hope this workshop will promote a prolific exchange of resources, talents, and ideas.

This workshop will be geared toward finding areas of complementarity between NGC and BNL researchers, helping NGC leverage different capabilities and expertise across BNL and other DOE National Labs. Brookhaven Lab applies advanced light sources and experimental techniques to conduct research on energy materials for powering and securing the nation’s future (e.g., National Synchrotron Light Source II). NGC offers an extraordinary portfolio of capabilities and technologies enabling the delivery of innovative systems and solutions for undersea, outer space, and cyberspace.

This workshop is a milestone for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Technologist in Residence (TIR) Program with Principal Investigator Don Di Marzio from NGC and a BNL team led by Principal Investigator Oleg Gang from the Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN). The event will also help CFN follow DOE guidance to increase the number of industry users CFN serves.
