Dear CFN Users,
Shruti Sharma
I hope you are well and had an exciting summer filled with scientific accomplishments! As the CFN UEC Chair for 2023-2024, I would like to welcome new and returning users to the CFN User Community. Since it began operations in 2008, CFN has supported thousands of users. They are able to conduct ground-breaking research by utilizing not only the cutting-edge facilities but also by leveraging collaboration opportunities with CFN staff and fellow users. As a group, we have a wealth of knowledge and resources spanning the globe - across different disciplines, career paths, and experiences. During this year, CFN UEC will continue to foster and grow a stronger community where we bring our whole selves, and where members join forces in endeavors transcending scientific objectives, to harness the full potential of this powerful network.
To that end, I invite you all join our LinkedIn community. I also hope that you will bring your friends along and make some new ones. I encourage you to introduce yourself on the platform, share ideas you would like to collaborate on, seek mentors and mentees, amplify opportunities that you come across, and tag hidden gems?from best places to get coffee and bagels to your favorite places to watch a sunset on Long Island. The asynchronous, virtual LinkedIn group is just a starting place though. The CFN UEC is exploring additional avenues to regularly bring our user community together. By building active virtual and in-person communities, we hope to increase the probability of serendipitous encounters with new and old friends, colleagues, and partners. Please look out for announcements in the coming weeks. We hope you join us and participate actively. Please reach out to any of the UEC Executive Committee members with suggestions for future events or ways to improve our community communications.
As we march forward, we have many exciting opportunities brewing for our members. We hope you continue to take advantage of showcasing your work through various CFN and DOE channels:
- We can’t wait to see your creativity shine during the Annual CFN Image Contest to celebrate National Nanotechnology Day! Please send your submissions and questions to Pam Ciufo, ciufo@bnl.gov, by October 6. Winning entries will grace the walls of CFN’s physical and social media galleries, commemorating time well spent on your passion.
- We would love to amplify your successes and opportunities you are supporting. Please feel free to reach out to the CFN UEC to learn more about how to get featured through DOE research highlights and in CFN and BNL news, including social media. Help us build your brand and network!
- Remember to submit your new proposals and request additional time on your existing proposals by September 30th. Please review the list of new mandatory questions that have been added to the proposal and reach out to CFN User Office if you have any questions.
- We are kicking off the planning for the 2024 CFN-NSLS II User Meeting and look forward to seeing your workshop proposals and active participation throughout.
We hope to see you at weekly Wednesday coffee at CFN and other networking events.
