Motivation

The 3rd International Cryo-EM Workshop for Advanced Materials highlights the growing role of cryogenic electron microscopy in materials science, particularly in areas related to energy and quantum materials. With continued developments in imaging techniques and cryo-EM workflows, the workshop brings together researchers to share practical insights and recent developments.

The program includes plenary and invited talks from leading experts and scientists, hands-on demonstrations, and group discussions, aimed at helping participants deepen their understanding of cryo-EM and explore its applications in studying complex materials at low temperatures.

Topics

  • Instrumentation
  • Data analysis and algorithm
  • Breakthroughs in energy and quantum materials research (to be added later)

About Workshop

Cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) has rapidly evolved and become a transformative tool for studying complex materials with unprecedented resolution. This workshop is a biennial series hosted by national laboratories, fostering collaboration and innovation in cryo-EM for advanced materials. The inaugural ICE Workshop was held at Sandia National Laboratories in 2022, followed by the second ICE Workshop at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2024. This ICE Workshop brings together leading experts to explore its application in energy materials, beam- and air-sensitive systems, and quantum materials. Discussions will span cutting-edge instrumentation, advanced data analysis algorithms, and evolving methodologies that push the boundaries of material characterization. The ICE Workshop provides a unique avenue for researchers to engage with forefront leaders, exchange insights, and define future directions in cryo-EM for advanced materials.

Registration

This ICE Workshop 2026 is not open to the public. To be eligible to attend, all participants must register online by June 1, 2026. For questions or assistance with registering, please contact the Workshop Coordinator.
