Pianist Daria Rabotkina to Perform at Brookhaven Lab February 24

UPTON, NY — Pianist Daria Rabotkina will perform at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Wednesday, February 24, at noon in Berkner Hall. Sponsored by Brookhaven Science Associates, the company that manages the Lab, the concert is free and open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo I.D.
Daria Rabotkina, winner of the 2007 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, has been lauded by The Cleveland Plain Dealer as “a pianist full of fire and warmth.” She has made solo appearances with the San Francisco and New World Symphonies under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas and with the Kirov Orchestra and Valery Gergiev in a four-concert North American tour. She recently recorded her debut recital disc, featuring the Tchaikovsky Grand Sonata and Prokofiev’s Ten Pieces from Romeo and Juliet, released on CAG records in October 2009.
Rabotkina was born in Kazan, Russia, to a family of musicians and gave her first solo recital at the age of ten. Her first musical steps were guided by her parents, Guzel Abdoullina and Sergei Rabotkin, both outstanding pianists, and Nora Kazachkova at the Special Music School in Kazan. Rabotkina is currently pursuing a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of Natalya Antonova, where she is a “Liberace Scholar.” In March 2009, St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA awarded her the inaugural Bronder Prize for Piano, named for the founder of the school’s venerable concert series. The program at the Lab will include works by Bach, Busoni, and Prokofiev.
