Athi is a nuclear engineer in the Nuclear Science and Security Department. His work at BNL includes the development of software reliability models for probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), thermal-hydraulics analyses to support reactor fuel upgrades, evaluations of the potential impacts of cyber-attacks on nuclear facilities, and assessments of control room habitability.
Prior to his role at BNL, Athi’s research at the University of Michigan focused on the development of reliability models for power distribution systems and surrogate modeling techniques to explore the effects of accident timing on pressurized water reactor behavior. He also served for six years as a licensed operator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison research reactor.
Expertise
- Probabilistic risk assessment
