Chao is a physicist working on neutrino oscillation experiments. He has so far contributed to the measurement of four out of the seven fundamental neutrino oscillation parameters, including the solar neutrino mass splitting (delta-m-squared-21) and its mixing angle (theta-12), the atmospheric neutrino mass splitting (delta-m-squared-31), and the smallest neutrino mixing angle (theta-13). His current research aims to determine the remaining unknown parameters: the neutrino mass ordering (MO) and the CP-violation phase in the lepton sector (delta-CP).
