Gymnasium
NOTE: the Laboratory's gymnasium is for the use of Brookhaven Lab employees, guests, retirees, and family members only. It is not open to the general public.
The gymnasium is available for court sports including badminton, volleyball, and basketball as well as general fitness activities. Dressing rooms, showers, and gym lockers are available.
Gymnasium Hours
- Open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Mid-Morning Closure: The gymnasium and locker rooms are cleared from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Monday - Friday for cleaning, maintenance, and group use. Plan workouts around this window.
Card Scanner System
- Scanning In: Swipe your valid ID at the card reader on arrival. Do not tailgate others into the facility.
- Exit Promptly: Once you've finished your workout, exit the building promptly. Please do not linger in hallways, locker rooms, or courts.
Incidents & Injuries
- Report incidents and injuries immediately. Complete an Accident Report Form (found in the front lobby next to the water fountain and on the wall near the AED).
- Or alert the lifeguard on duty at the pool, Ext. 3496. They can assist and help file the report.
Policy Expectations
- No abuse of access. Do not share badges or let others enter on your scan.
- After-Hours Rule: Entering the facility during at any time outside of the operating hours or remaining (“harboring”) in the facility after hours is prohibited and subject to disciplinary action. Please don't ruin it for the rest of the community.
Access and Requirements
- The Lab employee must escort and remain with their family member(s) any time a family member is at the Gymnasium.
- Adult children (18+) and spouses/partners must have a BNL badge for facility access.
- Retirees must have a valid badge for facility access.
