Motivation
The U.S. Department of Energy's National Science Bowl® is a highly publicized national competition among teams of high school students who answer questions on scientific topics in astronomy, biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, earth, computer and general science. The winner of Brookhaven's regional competition will be sent to Washington D.C. to compete in the National Competition.
All high school students who attend school on Long Island are eligible and are invited to participate. In the academic competition, teams of middle school students answer questions on scientific topics in earth science, physical science, life science, math, and general science. Teams are comprised of five students (one of whom is an alternate) and a teacher who acts as an advisor and coach. The competition consists of a round robin followed by a double elimination final. Questions are in the form of multiple choice and short answer.

This competition is suitable for all 9-12 grade students and teachers interested in chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, astronomy, and general, earth, and computer science. Team members must attend the same high school.
