August 28, 2009
The Sol y Sombra Dance Company will perform a concert of classical Spanish and Flamenco music and dance at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory on Saturday, September 26, at 7 p.m. in Berkner Hall. Sponsored by the Lab’s Hispanic Heritage Club, the event is open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.
The concert, entitled “La Guitarra,” will celebrate 500 years of the Spanish guitar and the music, song and dance that it has inspired. In addition to live guitarists, singers, and dancers, the concert will also feature visual works from Latina artist Pura Cruz’s “Broken Guitar” series.
This concert is made possible in part by grants from the New York State Arts Council‘s Decentralization Program, the Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs, and a community grant from Suffolk County Legislator Vivian Viloria-Fisher.
Tickets for the event are $12 in advance and $15 at the door on the day of the performance. Tickets may be purchased through www.ticketweb.com or via mail by calling 631 344-3347. Advance ticket purchase is recommended.
The Laboratory is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway.
