Carini currently leads the Discovery Technologies Directorate at Brookhaven Lab. She first joined the Laboratory in 2003 before moving to SLAC National Laboratory in 2011. There, Carini led the Detector Department at SLAC's Linac Coherent Light Source before returning to Brookhaven Lab in 2018. Carini is known for her work in developing cutting-edge microelectronics, particularly for operations in extreme environments and with limited power budgets.

Currently, she oversees scientists working on research and development for state-of-the-art detectors, particle accelerators, quantum computers, and microelectronics. With Stony Brook University, Carini’s group has created the nation’s longest quantum network – a 161-mile path that they’re working to extend to NY City, Connecticut, and beyond.

Carini has authored and co-authored more than 175 publications and holds two patents. She received the 2022 IEEE Emilio Gatti Radiation Instrumentation Technical Achievement Award for developing new radiation detectors that support a range of scientific discoveries and applications, including space telescopes and homeland security.

Carini is also a fellow of the Oppenheimer Science & Energy Leadership Program. She earned her Ph.D. in electronic engineering from the University of Palermo in Italy.

"I am honored to have been recognized by Brookhaven Town alongside my fellow recipients, and I’m proud to be part of a coordinated effort at Brookhaven Lab to provide unprecedented technical capabilities, advance science, and improve people’s lives," said Carini.
