On August 27, the Lab welcomed international guests Carlos Martinez, Spain's Secretary of State, Ministry for Science and Innovation, and Rosa Rodriguez Bernabe, Spain's Associate Director of International Programs for the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

According to CFN's Emilio Mendez, who helped organize their visit, "Our visitors were very impressed by BNL's facilities and its broad research program, and expressed an interest in scientific collaborations between BNL and Spanish institutions. I see this visit as the seed of a very fruitful joint program in areas of common interest, including biomedicine and nanoscience for energy applications."

Greeted by Mendez and Lab Director Sam Aronson, the dignitaries toured the STAR Detector at RHIC with Steve Vigdor, Timothy Hallman, and Ramiro Debbe, the X-Ray Gamma Detectors with Ralph James, NSLS with Cecilia Sanchez Hanke, and PET Imaging with Joanna Fowler and Richard Ferrieri. They also met with Creighton Wirick of the Energy, Environment and National Security Directorate as well as Jorg Schwender and Bill Studier of Biology Programs and Initiatives.
