Meet the 2024 Distinguished Administrator Award Recipients
November 18, 2024
At the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Distinguished Administrator Awards are presented to key contributors in the administrative support path, whose performance and achievements represent outstanding service to the Laboratory. The 2024 recipients are:
Cindi Biancarosa, Office of Educational Programs
Cindi Biancarosa has been a cornerstone of the Office of Educational Programs (OEP) at Brookhaven Lab for over 20 years. She has facilitated the engagement of more than 100,000 elementary students and thousands of high school and college interns, ensuring smooth and enriching experiences for all participants. Her dedication to the Lab’s educational efforts has been crucial in shaping the next generation of scientists and engineers.
Biancarosa’s leadership has significantly improved OEP’s administrative processes, including spearheading the transition from paper-based to electronic student appointments, increasing efficiency across departments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led efforts to implement virtual internships and later facilitated the return to on-site programs. Her initiative in securing direct deposit for student stipends further streamlined operations.
Beyond OEP, Biancarosa’s contributions have had a Lab-wide impact, including her work with the “Cut the Red Tape” committee and improvements to the Brookhaven Science Associates account management system. Her commitment to fostering a positive and efficient work environment has made her a trusted mentor and leader within OEP and the broader Lab community.
Biancarosa’s exemplary service, leadership, and dedication to driving positive change — all delivered with a wonderful sense of humor — make her a deserving recipient of the Distinguished Administrator Award.
Lynanne DiFilippo, Collider-Accelerator Department
With over 40 years of dedicated service at Brookhaven Lab, Lynanne DiFilippo has been an exemplary administrative leader, excelling as group leader and assistant to the chair of the Collider-Accelerator Department (C-AD). Her extensive experience, from managing finances during the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) project to transitioning administrative functions for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), highlights her crucial role in the Lab’s success.
DiFilippo’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was transformative. She implemented systems for electronic time reporting and document sharing, and ensured critical signatures under Accelerator Conduct of Operations were maintained remotely. Her redesign of C-AD’s web presence and internal SharePoint site significantly improved operational efficiency.
As a mentor and leader of a seven-member administrative team, DiFilippo fostered a supportive environment, encouraging staff to take on new roles, particularly in the EIC project. Her contributions to workforce transitions, administrative process improvements, and digital documentation systems have had a lasting impact on C-AD and the Lab as a whole.
DiFilippo’s exceptional organizational skills, long-standing dedication, and ability to foster collaboration across departments make her a deserving recipient of the Distinguished Administrator Award. Her work exemplifies administrative excellence and continues to enhance Lab operations.
