Programs to enhance the life and work experience at Brookhaven Lab

Among the many benefits of working for Brookhaven Science Associates is access to a wide variety of on-site activities, facilities, and employee-run groups. The Quality of Life Office oversees a number of important employee services including the Brookhaven Employees' Recreation Association (BERA), the on-campus bike program, the summer recreation program for kids, the hospitality program for resident family members, and more.

Organic Vegetable Club

Join the organic vegetable club and receive a weekly vegetable bag full of freshly picked local veggies from The Green Thumb Organic Farm. Runs early June through late November.

Summer Recreation Program

The summer recreation program is for the children of Laboratory employees. Intended for children ages 5 to 12, the program includes general arts, crafts and recreation/sports with gym and swim time each afternoon.

Borrow-a-Bike and Bike Share

The Borrow-a-Bike program assigns Lab bicycles to guests, users, and visitors for the duration of their on-campus stay. The Bike Share program makes bikes available on a grab-and-go basis whenever they're needed.

We encourage staff to take advantage of the Lab's on-site recreation facilities and participate in social, cultural, and athletic activities sponsored by the Brookhaven Employees' Recreation Association (BERA).

Association of Students And Postdocs

Brookhaven’s Association of Students And Postdocs (ASAP) is for all postdocs, students and early career scientists. Our aim is to improve the quality of life of our members, and to act as a magnet to bring together students and postdocs in a social setting.

Winter Recreation Program

The winter recreation program is for the children of Laboratory employees. Intended for children ages 5 to 13, the program includes general arts, crafts and recreation/sports.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) assists Laboratory employees, guests, users, post-doctoral students, and family members improve their English skills and public speaking abilities.
