Kathi Barkigia

Kathi is the Interim Manager of the Policy and Strategic Planning Office, a group that oversees the development of the Annual Laboratory Plan, the Laboratory Agenda and Organizational Business Plans and that coordinates the Laboratory Directed Research and Development and Program Development Programs.  Kathi also serves as the Special Assistant to the Director, providing executive support to Senior Management on a variety of high visibility projects.  She works tirelessly on activities related to planning, policy, and national awards to ensure that the Lab and Senior Management shine.

Kathi’s background is in Chemistry, having published close to 70 papers in high-impact journals.  Her expertise in Inorganic Chemistry, Synchrotron and lab-based X-ray Crystallography and Neutron Diffraction has made her a valuable and trusted partner for Laboratory leadership.

Kathi has a B.S. in Chemistry (with honors) from Le Moyne College, as well as an M.S. in Physical Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Georgetown University.  She has multiple professional affiliations including the American Chemical Society, the American Crystallographic Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.  In 2009, Kathi received the Brookhaven Award for Outstanding Service.
