David K. Mohamed supports operational excellence within the Collider-Accelerator Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory through his leadership in Authorization Basis and Conduct of Operations. He plays a key role in implementing the DOE Accelerator Safety Order, developing and maintaining safety basis documentation, including Safety Assessment Documents and Accelerator Safety Envelopes, as well as reviewing departmental activities for potential risks to existing authorization bases.
He also contributes to the Laboratory’s culture of operational discipline by leading the implementation of the DOE Conduct of Operations Order across the C-AD Complex. His work developing tailored Conduct of Operations programs for the Collider-Accelerator Department and the Medical Isotope & Research Program, now the Isotope Department, has helped strengthen consistency, compliance, and staff engagement.
David joined BNL in 2018 after eight years in industry designing automation equipment, transit lighting, and elevator control systems. At the Lab, he has broadened his focus from technical design to institutional safety and operations, integrating Contractor Assurance System (CAS) and Quality Assurance (QA) principles into program development and assessments. These efforts have supported continuous improvement and contributed to operational resilience.
He currently serves as an ORPS event categorizer and is appointed to the BNL Conduct of Operations Review Board and the BNL Noncompliance Tracking System Review Board. He is also Vice President of the Long Island Chapter of the American Nuclear Society. David holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University and an M.S. in Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences from the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy.
Through this work, he contributes to Brookhaven’s mission of enabling world-class science by ensuring safe, efficient, and resilient operations that empower discovery.
