Erik leads the development and operation of the X-ray Footprinting of Biological Materials (XFP, 17-BM) beamline, a role that he has held since 2018. XFP is operated by the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine as a Partner Beamline at the National Synchrotron Light Source II, and is dedicated to synchrotron X-ray footprinting, an emerging method to probe the structure and dynamics of biomolecules in the native solution state.

Previously, Erik led user support for a biological X-ray absorption spectroscopy PRT program at the NSLS from 2010-2014, folllowed by contributions to the construction and commissioning of the XFP beamline in 2016-2017.
