On July 24th, 2023, Richard N. Hayes, Executive Director of the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Hofstra University, accompanied by Avinanda Mukherjee, Assistant Director of Grant Writing and Management, visited Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). They received an enthusiastic welcome from co-hosts, Erick J. Hunt, Director of the Office of Research Partnerships and Technology Transfer, and David Manning, Director of Stakeholder Relations.

The main objective of the visit was to promote collaboration between BNL and Hofstra on entrepreneurship, economic development, and technology transfer. Kristyn Noren, Senior Protocol Officer, played an instrumental role in organizing the visit. During the course of the day, the visitors toured the Magnet Facility, NASA Space Radiation Laboratory, National Synchrotron Light Source II, and Center for Functional Nanomaterials, all of which showcased BNL's state-of-the-art research facilities and expertise.

Both parties were pleased with the outcome of the visit, as it presented a unique opportunity to create a synergistic partnership between academia and industry. The visit explored potential collaborations that may arise from Hofstra's participation in BNL's entrepreneurial activities and programs, which can aid in the transfer of innovative technologies into the marketplace.

Given the research and development mandate of BNL, the tour provided a perfect platform for the discussion of various initiatives that can provide mutual benefits to both institutions. It was evident from the discussions that both institutions share similar goals and are committed to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship for the betterment of society.

Overall, the visit was an excellent opportunity for Hofstra University and Brookhaven National Laboratory to explore potential areas of collaboration. We appreciate the support of everyone who made this productive visit possible. We look forward to future visits and continued collaborations between BNL and Hofstra University in innovation and entrepreneurship.
