International Safeguards Project Office
Based at Brookhaven National Laboratory, the International Safeguards Project
Office (ISPO) is responsible for the technical and administrative management of the U.S. Support
Program to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Department of Safeguards. ISPO serves
as a link between the IAEA and candidates within the United States who are qualified to fill
important IAEA positions. We also connect IAEA project managers with domestic contractors who
can support technical work in the field of nuclear nonproliferation.

IAEA Technical Work
The U.S. Support Program (USSP) periodically seeks assistance from U.S. National Laboratories and U.S. private contractors by soliciting proposals in response to requests for work from the International Atomic Energy Agency's Department of Safeguards. The nature of the requests vary based on the needs of the IAEA and may include of any of the following.
- Development of new inspection methods
- Production of equipment and instrumentation
- Inspector training
- Consulting services
- Technology workshops
- Computer hardware and software design
The International Safeguards Project Office reviews all proposals received in response to IAEA requests and submits them to the Subgroup on Safeguards Technical Support (SSTS) which makes final funding award decisions.
