Master Fiddler April Verch to Give Concert at Brookhaven Lab, March 31

Upton, NY - April Verch, a master fiddler from Ottawa Valley in Canada, will give a concert in Berkner Hall at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Wednesday, March 31, at noon. The concert is free and open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.

Verch will perform contemporary and traditional fiddle tunes with a band, featuring string bass, guitar and drums. She will also treat the audience to her dynamic singing and dancing.

Among her many honors, Verch was named Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion in 1997 and Canadian Open Fiddle Champion in 1998. Verch has toured Canada, the U.S., the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates, and she has performed for such varied venues as the Millennium Celebrations at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Oklahoma Bluegrass Festival.

Verch studied fiddling at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and she now teaches at many fiddle camps and workshops, as her performance and recording schedule allows. Of her five recordings, Verch's latest, called "From Where I Stand" (Rounder Records, 2003), features Verch's debut as a vocalist.
