Four Students Receive 2005 Battelle-Brookhaven Women in Science Awards

UPTON, NY - Four local female high school students who excel in science and/or mathematics were each awarded $1,000 at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory to encourage them to pursue careers in those fields. The annual award was established in 1999 by Battelle, an Ohio-based corporation that partners with Stony Brook University to manage Brookhaven Lab through Brookhaven Science Associates, and by Brookhaven Women in Science, a not-for-profit group at Brookhaven Lab whose aim is to promote the advancement of women.
The winning students are: Marjorie DeWitt, William Floyd High School; Jennifer Erickson, Shoreham-Wading River High School; Danielle Hein, Riverhead High School; and Kelly Marrone, Eastport-South Manor High School.
