Small Business Fair to be Held at Brookhaven Lab, April 28

Upton, NY - A Small Business Fair and High-Tech Matchmaker will be held at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory on Friday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sponsored by Brookhaven Lab and the Small Business Administration (SBA), the fair will provide opportunities for small business personnel to network with buyers from large businesses with the goal of winning contracts. To help small businesses determine if they can fill the needs of high-tech companies or collaborate with these companies, a separate high-tech area will showcase exhibits from scientific and technical companies, including Brookhaven Lab. The fair is free and open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.

"We hope that new contracts for small businesses will come about from this bi-annual fair, and that it will help large businesses meet their subcontracting goals," said Jill Clough-Johnston, Brookhaven Lab's Small Business Liaison Officer.

Congressman Timothy H. Bishop will be the keynote speaker at the fair, and William Manger Jr., the SBA's Region II Administrator, will also address the audience. The fair's highlights include workshops on how to obtain SBA certification for minority and hub-zone small businesses and how to obtain small business loans. More than 15 large businesses will display exhibits at the fair.

Small business personnel do not have to register for the fair. Clough-Johnston recommends that they bring their business cards and marketing information to distribute to the large businesses on hand. For more information, call (631) 344-3173.

The Laboratory is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway.
