January 16, 2007
UPTON, NY - "The Gathering of the Slides V," a blues concert featuring the Kerry Kearney Band, Little Toby Walker, the Kane Daily Band, and Dee Harris will be held at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Saturday, February 24, at 7 p.m. in Berkner Hall. Sponsored by the BNL Music Club, the concert is open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.
Back for a fifth year at Brookhaven, the Kerry Kearney Band brings down the house with their unique, high-energy sound known as "Psychedelta." Founded in 1995, Kearney's electric band features Kearney on slide guitar, Tony Campo on keyboard, Frank Celenza on bass, Eileen Murphy on drums, and Charlie Wolfe on harmonica. The band played numerous shows with the Allman Brothers in 2000 and toured nationally with the Dickey Betts Band in 2001. It has been featured in many local clubs and NYC venues, such as The Bottom Line and Tribeca Blues, and has also headlined in several music festivals, including the Riverhead Blues Festival.
Winner of the prestigious 2002 Memphis International Blues Challenge, Little Toby Walker is a gifted finger-style guitarist, singer, songwriter and storyteller whose music draws from traditional and contemporary blues, western swing and ragtime. Playing a 1930 steel guitar, Walker peppers his musical performance with humorous commentary.
The Kane Daily Band brings a mix of blues-oriented classic rock'n'roll and Delta as well as Chicago-oriented blues to their act. While a member of the band Rooster, Daily helped the group win the 1997 Long Island Music Festival Award. Besides Daily on slide guitar, the Kane Daily Band features bassist George Ellert and drummer Dave Cobb.
A guitar player for over 30 years, Dee Harris had the opportunity at an early age to study slide guitar with the late Tom Pomposello, a close friend and playing partner of the legendary Mississippi Fred McDowell. Harris plays in local clubs, such as The Barefoot Peddler in Greenvale and the Cherrywood Café in Wantagh.
