Pianist Michelle Cann to Perform at Brookhaven Lab, July 11

UPTON, NY - Nineteen-year-old pianist Michelle Cann, who has gained recognition as an exceptional talent since she received first prize in the Florida State Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition at age 10, will appear in concert at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Wednesday, July 11, at noon in Berkner Hall. Sponsored by Brookhaven Science Associates, the company that manages Brookhaven Lab, the concert is free and open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.

Cann has made several appearances as concerto soloist with orchestras in Florida. Last year, she was chosen to perform on the nationally broadcasted radio show From the Top, hosted by renowned pianist Christopher O'Riley. Earlier this year, she was one of four students selected to represent the Cleveland Institute of Music at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, in a project that showcases the best young musical artists in classical music, jazz and opera from the nation's leading academic institutions.

Cann was recently chosen as one of eight pianists from around the world to participate in the Bayan Academy, a workshop directed by the acclaimed pianist Sergei Babyan. She has also attended PianoFest in the Hamptons, a summer program directed by renowned pianist Paul Schenly. Cann's program at Brookhaven Lab contains works by Chopin, Schubert, Scarlatti, Debussy, and Ginastera.
