UPTON, NY -The magic and music of the film industry in India will be brought to the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Saturday, January 5. Hosted by the Laboratory's BERA Indo-American Association, and the BNL Music Club, "A Bollywood Musical Evening at BNL" will be held at 7 p.m. in Berkner Hall. The event is open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.
The evening's entertainment will consist of solo and group songs, and music and dance based on Bollywood movies, with a multi-media presentation of original movie scenes shown in the background. The star of the show will be Sharda, a very popular Bollywood singer who has won the prestigious Film Fare award twice. In addition to singing, Sharda's skills include lyrics composition and music direction. She has produced movies for UNICEF, and she recently produced an audio album of Ghazals, poetry consisting of couplets that share a rhyme and a refrain.
Tickets for the event are $20 for VIP seats in the front rows and $15 for regular seats. Because Sharda is interested in introducing the golden era of melodious Bollywood music to the younger generation, she is inviting all students, including postdoctoral students under age 30, to the event free of charge. Free student seating is available for regular seats only. Proof of student status is required. Also, Sharda will invite one member of the younger generation to join her to sing and dance on stage. (Have cameras ready for memorable photos.)
