Statement on Personnel and Property Contamination Incident at Brookhaven Lab
October 7, 2011
Brookhaven Lab is investigating and taking corrective actions following a September 28 incident involving the movement of radiological material on the Lab site that resulted in low levels of radiation being detected on two workers, in several on-site locations, and in an employee’s personal vehicle. No health or environmental impacts are expected as a result of the incident.
Pending the results of the investigation, Laboratory Director Sam Aronson will be standing-down radiological operations at the Lab site in order to conduct a comprehensive review of all radiological policies, procedures, practices, and training programs.
