Happy 70th Anniversary, Brookhaven Lab!

More than 1,000 members of the Brookhaven Lab community gathered on Oct. 11 to form a “big 70” to commemorate the Lab's 70 years of discovery since its founding in 1947. The Lab community had previously gathered for similar photos for Brookhaven’s 50th and 60th anniversaries.

The picture was organized by the Stakeholder Relations Office, with assistance from the Lab’s Police and Fire and Rescue groups, and the Site Resources Division. Lab photographers Roger Stoutenburgh and Joseph Rubino were raised 65 feet in the bucket of the Lab’s ladder truck to capture the aerial photo and video, and a drone also captured images and video.

Following the event, participants received anniversary T-shirts and refreshments. The large number of staff and retirees who came together for this anniversary celebration demonstrated the spirit of the Lab community and its passion for discovery over the years.
