Meet the 2023 Distinguished Administrator Award Recipients

The Distinguished Administrator Awards are presented to recognize key contributors in the Administrative Support path whose performance and achievements represent outstanding service to the Laboratory. The 2023 recipients were:
Mary Campbell, Environment, Biology, Nuclear Science & Nonproliferation Directorate
Mary Campbell, administrative specialist in the Environment, Biology, Nuclear Science & Nonproliferation (EBNN) Directorate, was honored with the Distinguished Administrator Award for her remarkable 30-year career at the Lab. A planning and logistics lead for the Quantum XLab event, Mary's planning skills positioned Brookhaven as a quantum research leader, adapting seamlessly to a virtual platform during the pandemic. Her expertise in Zoom and Teams supports complex workshops, including those for the BRaVE initiative.
Mary's influence extends Lab-wide, setting high standards for administrative staff in EBNN and mentoring early-career professionals. Leading the EBNN administrators' group, she promotes cross-training and consistency. Mary's commitment to a positive work environment is seen in her efforts for career development, post-doc forums, and engagement events. Her caring approach extends to supporting United Way, organizing the Pet Calendar, and contributing to the Adopt-a-Family donation program. Mary's enduring dedication and impact on Lab strategies make her a highly deserving recipient of the Distinguished Administrator Award.
Linda Hanlon, Energy & Photon Sciences Directorate
Linda Hanlon, administrative specialist in the Energy & Photon Sciences Directorate, was awarded the Distinguished Administrator Award for unwavering dedication and outstanding contributions since starting at Brookhaven National Laboratory in 1979.
Joining as a clerk typist, Linda progressed through various roles, showcasing her skills and building a network of colleagues. Notably, her pivotal role in the Nonproliferation and National Security Department exemplified her quiet competence and commitment to "getting the job done." Linda's move to the Energy and Photon Sciences Directorate in 2011 further highlighted her excellence.
Linda's impacts extend beyond her administrative duties. She has had a crucial role in the success of the United Way Holiday Auction, demonstrating her generosity and commitment to community welfare. As a mentor, Linda inspires colleagues to achieve extraordinary results, contributing significantly to the Lab's growth initiatives and strategic goals.

Donna Pfeiffer, Operations Support and Planning Division
Donna Pfeiffer, senior administrative assistant in Operational Support & Planning, was honored with the Distinguished Administrator Award for her outstanding tenure at the Lab. Donna's journey began in the 1970s, showcasing her organizational skills in the Medical Department. Since her second stint with the Lab began in 1998, she has contributed significantly, notably to the implementation of the Guest Information System (GIS) and the Foreign Visits and Assignments Program (FVA). Her impact extends to the Environmental Management System and Occupational Safety & Health program, resulting in successful certifications.
Donna's proactive approach is evident in her recommendations for GIS and FVA improvements, emphasizing efficiency. Her dedication to the Lab’s Work Planning & Control System reflect her attention to detail and ability to work with people throughout the Laboratory. Donna's positive attitude and exceptional organizational skills inspire those around her, influencing Lab initiatives and partnerships with the ES&H Directorate. Her contributions make her an invaluable asset to Brookhaven, positively shaping internal and external interactions.
