High pT Physics in the RHIC-LHC Era

Motivation

This will be the 11th Workshop in the series which began at the ECT* in Trento, Italy in September 2006 as a "Workshop on Jet Physics in Heavy Ion Collisions at the LHC", continued in Jyvaskyla, Finland in February 2007, Tokaj, Hungary in March 2008, Prague, Czech Republic in 2009, etc. This will be the first meeting in the United States.

The purpose of this workshop is to offer an opportunity for both experimentalists and theorists to get together and discuss the latest experimental results from RHIC and LHC and the latest theoretical developments. Emphasis is on discussion over a broad scope: high pT physics, jets, photons, correlations, hard scattering and hard probe phenomena. The meeting will follow p+A, p+p runs at RHIC in 2015 which complement the large Au+Au run in 2014 and will be shortly after the first Pb+Pb measurement at ~5 TeV in Run 2 at the LHC in a time frame comparable to the exciting meeting at Utrecht in April 2011 which followed the first Pb+Pb run at the LHC.

The main topics will be:

  • Nuclear modifications of the parton distribution functions
  • High pT jet production in p + p, p/d + A, A+A
  • High pT parton progation in matter
  • Nuclear modifications of the fragmentation functions
  • Correlations of jets and of leading particles
  • Direct photons, heavy flavor, quarkonia
  • Multiparticle effects (net-charge, net-proton, p-p ridge)

The meeting is in a workshop format with only plenary presentations and ample room for discussion between presentations. Arrival is Monday, April 11, 2016 and departure is on Friday, April 15, 2016 after lunch.

Presentations

Presentations will be mainly by invitation. We expect to be able to accommodate a limited number of contributed talks. If you are interested in presenting a contributed talk, please contact Michael J. Tannenbaum directly (mjt@bnl.gov).
