As you may already know, we finished our first year in C2QA with a leadership update. We are fortunate to welcome Kai-Mei Fu as the new Deputy Director of the Center. Kai-Mei has been a member of the Center from the beginning, and we are excited to have them take on this new role. Over the past several months, they have brought energy and insight to our weekly steering meetings, and we are happy to have their help in guiding the Center.

Kai-Mei is an associate professor of physics and electrical engineering at the University of Washington, jointly appointed at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. They are a leading expert on quantum defects in crystals, with research spanning materials science and nanophotonics, and in using those defects in applications in quantum sensing and quantum information. As a researcher, their role in C2QA focuses on exploring new qubits for computing and communication as part of the materials thrust, and on using defects for networks and interfaces as part of the devices thrust. In addition to their new leadership position in C2QA, Kai-Mei is also a member of the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Board.
