Summary
Researchers from BNL and Columbia University are developing a biosensing technology that enhances the sensitivity of nanoparticle-based rapid diagnostics by over 100-fold through using of acoustically driven non-equilibrium bioreactions.
Description
The detection method uses precisely shaped acoustic waves to accelerate molecular recognition, the core mechanism behind biosensing. These tailored acoustic pulses create localized, high-density zones of biofunctionalized nanoparticles, triggering faster and more effective binding with target biomolecules even at ultra-low concentrations. This invention allows for the detection of analytes at concentrations that were not possible without the use of acoustic energy.
Benefits
Acoustic stimulation accelerates molecular recognition, reducing time-to-result. This technology is ideal for rapid point-of-care and real-time monitoring applications.
Applications and Industries
The potential applications of this technology include medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, food safety, and biodefense.
