Abstract Submission Guidelines
The instructions below will guide you through the abstract submission
process. You can submit an abstract for an oral presentation or a poster
presentation. Abstracts should use the template below and be no more than
250 words. Submissions that are not accepted for oral presentations will be
automatically considered for a poster. Oral presentations will be 15-minutes
long followed by 3-minutes for questions. Presentations should be tailored
for a general scientific audience. The deadline to submit an abstract for an
oral or poster presentation is September 25, 2018.
How to Submit An Abstract
- Please read and follow all abstract submission guidelines shown below.
- Eligibility: All postdocs and undergraduate/graduate
students currently affiliated with Brookhaven National
Laboratory (BNL) or who performed at least a portion of their
research at BNL are invited to submit an abstract
for ECRS 2018.
- An abstract is required for all oral and poster
presentations at the symposium.
- Abstracts will be printed in the ECRS program and/or
archived electronically on the BNL intranet. Please note this does not constitute publishing in a
peer-reviewed journal.
- An individual can be the presenting author on at-most one
abstract per-category – oral or poster. However, that same
individual can be a co-author on multiple other abstracts.
- All applications for a poster presentation that meet these
guidelines will be accepted.
- There is a selection process to qualify for the oral
presentation. A committee of BNL scientists from
various backgrounds will review the abstracts and the presenting
author will be notified of the outcome. The decision of the
committee is final.
The selection criteria will be based on (a) Novelty,
importance and impact of the research and relevance to the
mission of the laboratory; (b) The publication and oral
presentation records of the presenting author; (c) Evidence to
support the presenting author’s ability to convey the research
ideas to a wider audience of different background.
- The accuracy of an abstract is the sole responsibility of
the authors. Every effort will be made to publish the abstract
exactly as originally submitted. Once an abstract is submitted,
it cannot be
modified; i.e. an updated version will not be accepted even
before the deadline. Authors are advised to thoroughly proofread
their abstract prior to submitting it online.
- It is the sole responsibility of the presenting author to
ensure that all authors listed on the abstract have been
notified of the submission.
- Submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment
by the presenting author, if selected, to deliver a presentation
at the symposium.
- The presenting author of the abstract must give the
presentation (oral or poster) to be eligible for an award.
- Please make sure that the email address of the presenting
author and research supervisor is accurate. This is the sole
means of communication from ECRS organizers regarding submitted
abstracts.
- Acknowledgement of abstract submission will be automatically
sent via email to the presenting author.
- Download and complete the abstract submission template. Note, oral and poster
abstracts use the same template.
