Transportation Information
The 2026 ePIC collaboration Meeting will take place January 20–23, 2026, at the Science and User Support Center (Building 101) on the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) campus in Upton, New York. Brookhaven is located in central Long Island, about 60 miles (95 km) east of New York City. Visitors can reach the Lab by air, train, or car.
Airports
Several major airports serve the Long Island area and provide convenient access to BNL:
- Long Island MacArthur (ISP) – Located in Ronkonkoma, about 25 miles (40 km) west of Brookhaven. This is the closest airport to the Lab and offers regional flights, primarily on Southwest and Frontier Airlines.
- John F. Kennedy International (JFK) – Approximately 60 miles (95 km) west of BNL. JFK is one of the main international gateways to New York and offers extensive domestic and international connections.
- LaGuardia Airport (LGA) – Around 65 miles (105 km) from the Lab. LaGuardia primarily handles domestic flights and is another good option for travelers arriving from within the U.S.
- Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) – Located in New Jersey, about 85 miles (135 km) from BNL. Newark offers a wide range of domestic and international flights but requires travel through New York City to reach Long Island.
Train and Public Transportation
BNL is accessible via the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), which connects New York City to many parts of Long Island.
- From Penn Station (Manhattan) or Grand Central Terminal (Manhattan), take the LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch to the Ronkonkoma Station.
- The train ride from Manhattan to Ronkonkoma takes about 90 minutes.
- From Ronkonkoma Station, BNL is approximately a 25-minute drive east.
- Taxis, rideshares, and rental cars are available at the Ronkonkoma Station.
Local Transportation and Access
Visitors are highly encouraged to rent a car if they plan to stay off-site or travel around Long Island.
