Darbari in Concert at Brookhaven Lab, March 27

Pre-Concert Dinner Featuring the Food of India

Upton, NY - Darbari, an ensemble of four musicians who perform the classical music of India, will perform in Berkner Hall at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Saturday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. Preceding the concert, a traditional Indian dinner will be served for the concertgoers at 5:45 p.m. The dinner and concert are open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and older must bring a photo ID.

Darbari performs Indian classical ragas in an interactive style, blending the sounds of their traditional Indian string and wind instruments - sitar, bansuri, and sarangi. In addition, a combination of innovative and traditional rendering is energized by the tabla, a percussion instrument. The ensemble consists of two of the most prominent Indian musicians living in the U.S., Pandit Ramesh Misra and Pandit Samir Chatterjee, as well as Allyn Miner and Steve Gorn, who have both received critical acclaim in India and the west for their subtle and skillful performances.

Tickets for the dinner and concert cost $30 for adults; $20 for full-time students (age 12 plus) postdoctoral fellows, and senior citizens (age 65 and older); and $10 for children age 5 to 12. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, but if purchased after March 25, they will cost $5 more for the $20 and $30 categories.
