Percussionist Joseph Gramley in Concert at Brookhaven Lab, February 9

UPTON, NY -Multi-percussionist Joseph Gramley will give a concert at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Wednesday, February 9, at noon in Berkner Hall. Sponsored by Brookhaven Science Associates, the company that manages Brookhaven Lab, the free concert is one of a series of noon concerts open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.
Gramley plays multiple percussion instruments, as well as the marimba and vibraphone. He gave his concerto debut with the Houston Symphony Orchestra in 1992, after winning their National Soloist Competition. While completing his graduate studies at the Juilliard School, Gramley founded the Ethos Percussion Group and performed extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe over the next four years. An invitation from Yo-Yo Ma in 2000 led Gramley to join Ma's Silk Road Project, in which he toured with Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble throughout North America, Europe and Asia, performing in the world's finest concert halls.
As a soloist, Gramley has wide appeal and has performed in a wide variety of venues, from Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to Steinway Hall in New York and the Cleveland Museum of Art. He has been featured on Late Night David Letterman and has appeared with Elton John and orchestra. Gramley has released two solo recordings: American Deconstruction (2001) and Global Percussion (2004). In addition to keeping up with his busy performance schedule, Gramley is director of the Julliard Summer Percussion Seminar, an intensive program for high school students, held at Lincoln Center.
