Biodiesel Uses and Benefits - Regional Workshop April 1

EVENT: Public- and private-sector individuals and organizations statewide who are interested in the production, supply, uses and benefits of renewable biodiesel fuel will participate in a one-day seminar sponsored by Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Greater Long Island Clean Cities Coalition, the Town of Brookhaven and the Northeast Regional Biomass Program. Media representatives are invited to attend, although registration for the general public is now closed due to space limitations.

WHEN: Friday, April 1, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

WHERE: Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory. The Lab is located on William Floyd Parkway, one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the LI Expressway.

DETAILS: Biodiesel is a cleaner burning alternative to petroleum-based diesel. Made from renewable resources like US grown soybeans and other natural fats and oils, biodiesel can be used in a diesel engine or boiler with few or no modifications. The daylong workshop will include discussions on fuel properties, current and future supply and price, recent federal tax incentives and environmental benefits of using biodiesel fuel in both home heating and vehicle applications. Congressman Tim Bishop (D-NY) will give the keynote luncheon address. A legislative roundtable will be held from 1:30 - 2:30 pm.
