Site Dedication for Center for Functional Nanomaterials - April 15
April 11, 2005
EVENT: Congressman David Hobson (R-Ohio), Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, and Dr. Raymond L. Orbach, Director of the Department of Energy's Office of Science, will be among dignitaries participating in a site dedication on April 15 for the Center for Functional Nanomaterials at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Media representatives are invited to attend.

WHEN: Friday, April 15, 3:30 p.m.
WHERE: Brookhaven National Laboratory. Take Brookhaven Avenue east to Technology Street. The Lab is located on William Floyd Parkway, one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the LI Expressway.
DETAILS: The Brookhaven National Laboratory Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) is one of five centers, called Nanoscale Science and Research Centers, to be located at U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories and managed by DOE's Office of Science. The CFN will provide scientists from universities, industry and government laboratories with state-of-the-art capabilities to fabricate and study nanoscale materials, which are the size of a few billionths of a meter. Such materials offer different chemical and physical properties than bulk materials, and could thus form the basis of new technologies. Operated as a national user facility, the CFN will emphasize atomic level tailoring of nanomaterials to achieve desired properties and functions.
Federal officials will be on hand to dedicate the site for the CFN facility and offer their perspectives on the project's importance to the Department of Energy's plans for nanoscience research.
Media representatives who plan to attend the event should notify Kay Cordtz, 631 344-2719, or Diane Greenberg, 631 344-2347.
