Economist Pearl Kamer to Speak on Brookhaven Lab's Economic Impact on Long Island and New York State, January 19

EVENT: Economist Pearl M. Kamer will give a talk to Brookhaven Lab employees titled "Brookhaven National Laboratory: A Key Economic Resource for Long Island and New York State." Media representatives are invited to the talk, and Kamer will be available for interviews immediately afterwards. The event is not open to the general public due to space limitations.

WHEN: Thursday, January 19 - 4 p.m. Following her talk to employees, Kamer will address media.

WHERE: Hamilton Seminar Room, Bldg. 555, Brookhaven National Laboratory. The Lab is located on William Floyd Parkway, one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the LI Expressway.

DETAILS: Owned and primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Brookhaven Lab is among the five largest high-tech employers on Long Island, with about 2,700 employees. The Laboratory's viability as a premier research facility is crucial to New York State's future growth, according to a recent report by Kamer. She will also speak about the Laboratory's impact on Long Island.

Kamer is chief economist for the Long Island Association, Long Island's largest business organization. Kamer received her Ph.D. and M.B.A. degrees from New York University and her bachelor's degree from Queens College. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Broadhollow Bioscience Park at Farmingdale State University and the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island and is vice-chair of the Route 110 Redevelopment Corporation. She is also an economic advisor to the Ways and Means Committee of the New York State Assembly.
