Railroad Earth in Concert at Brookhaven Lab, March 18
February 28, 2006
UPTON, NY - Railroad Earth, playing a mixture of bluegrass and rock & roll, will give a concert in Berkner Hall at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Saturday, March 18, at 8 p.m. The Electrix, an acoustic trio, will open the show. Sponsored by the BNL Music Club, the concert is open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.
Railroad Earth has attracted legions of loyal fans since their first concerts in 2001, and their songwriting ability and adept improvisation have won them the praise of Grateful Dead bass player Phil Lesh, who invited the band to open for him.
With Todd Sheaffer on lead vocal and acoustic guitars; Tim Carbone on violin; John Skehan, mandolin; Carey Harmon, drums; Johnny Grubb, upright bass; and Andy Goessling, acoustic guitars, banjo, dobro, madolin, flute, pennywhistle and saxophones, Railroad Earth hit the music scene with their wheels already rolling. Just six months after they starting jamming together, the band made a demo of five songs from their growing repertoire, and that first demo earned them a place in the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Since then, the band has released two studio albums on the largely bluegrass imprint Sugar Hill Records.
Tickets for the concert cost $20 each if purchased in advance from ticketweb.com or $25 at the door on the evening of the performance. Call 631 344-3846 for more information.
The Laboratory is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway.
