Brookhaven Lab's Small Business Fair Brings Big Results

UPTON, NY - A record number of almost 500 people attended the 2006 biannual Small Business Fair at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory. Sponsored by Brookhaven Lab and the Small Business Administration (SBA), the fair provided opportunities for small business personnel to network with buyers from large businesses, with the goal of winning contracts. About 450 small business people attended the fair, mainly to find out how to do business with the 37 large businesses that brought personnel and exhibits to the event, while some attended workshops on SBA certification and small business loans.

"This was the best year ever," said Jill Clough-Johnston, Brookhaven Lab's Small Business Liaison Officer. "This was the tenth year the fair was held at Brookhaven Lab. The fair has grown in recent years, and the networking has really helped both small and large businesses to get big results - each gets to fulfill their business needs successfully."

Construction of the CFN started in September 2005, and research at the center is expected to begin in 2007. The center will provide researchers with advanced probes to study materials at nanoscale dimensions - typically, billionths of a meter, or 1,000 times smaller than the human hair.
