Physicist Gene Van Buren (left) shows off the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) on March 10 during a media tour hosted by Brookhaven and Science Writers in New York (SWINY). More than a dozen local reporters and science journalists — representing publications ranging from Scientific American to the Times Beacon Record Newspapers — learned about RHIC and, via a live video feed with BNL scientists stationed in Switzerland, CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In addition to touring STAR, the journalists also visited PHENIX, RHIC's main control room, and the RHIC and ATLAS Computing Facility.
