Summer brings additional guests and visitors to Brookhaven Lab, so please be mindful of the runners, walkers, and bikers and follow the posted speed limit when driving around the site. Users should limit strenuous recreational outdoor activity when it is hot and humid. Most importantly, stay hydrated!

Upcoming CFN Deadlines

  • The next submission deadline for new proposals is September 30, 2017. Proposals submitted during this call will be considered for the January–April 2018 cycle.
  • After-hours access for the current cycle will expire at midnight on August 31, 2017. If you need to extend your after-hours access for the next cycle, call or email your CFN point of contact for authorization. Please remember that working with hydrofluoric acid and exchanging pyrophoric, flammable, or toxic gas cylinders are not authorized during after hours.

Proposal Submission Process

  • When submitting a rapid access proposal, always provide a compelling justification as to why you need access to the CFN right away. For example, if you state that you need preliminary results to secure continued funding, provide detailed information (i.e., if a grant proposal is due soon, provide the deadline date, or if there is a review of your program by your sponsor, provide the date of the review).
  • If you have new users working on your project, add them to the list of users through the CFN proposal system. When a new user requests training for the first time, CFN staff always check the proposal system to ensure that the user is listed on the project.

 Safety Reminders

  • Access to CFN laboratories is through authorized badge access only. Piggybacking onto someone else's access is a violation of CFN rules. If you lose access, contact the CFN User Office.
  • Sandals and other open-toed shoes and shorts are not permitted in the laboratories.
  • If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the CFN User Office or any of the CFN staff. We are here to help and to ensure you are safe when conducting your work.

Thank you to our user community for their continued support of and engagement with the CFN. Please continue to keep us informed of your awards, honors, and publications. Publicizing your discoveries and professional achievements helps us raise the profile of CFN, attract top scientists from around the world, and secure ongoing funding, especially during this time of budget uncertainty.
