A Message from Wilson Chiu, NSLS-II UEC Chair
September 25, 2025

Wilson Chiu (University of Connecticut)
These first few months as your UEC Chair have been very rewarding. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to serve this community and look forward to supporting our members in every way I can.
Collaboration lies at the heart of any successful organization, and this is especially true for the NSLS-II UEC. While we come from different institutions, pursue unique research, and bring expertise from a wide range of fields, we are united by a common mission: improving the user experience. To do this well, we need to ensure that every voice is heard and that we provide the right platforms to share ideas and information that benefit us all.
With this in mind, we have been exploring new ways to strengthen connections and improve communication. One exciting change will be how we keep the user community updated on recent developments and helpful resources at NSLS-II. In collaboration with NSLS-II and the Creative Services group at Brookhaven, we are creating a series of fun and informative video shorts, in the spirit of the UEC Show, that will be filmed on location. These will highlight tools, resources, and staff at the light source and across the lab, offering a fresh perspective on how NSLS-II can support your science. We want to hear from you though. What would you like to see, what would have helped you as a new user, what scientists or beamlines do you want to know more about? Please reach out to me at wilson.chiu@uconn.edu with ideas or suggestions.
I know it’s still early, but I’m already looking forward to the next Users’ Meeting. Organized by NSLS-II and Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) User Executive Committees, the 2026 Users’ Meeting in late April will offer users from diverse disciplines an opportunity to share their work and explore collaboration opportunities. There’s nothing like being able to network, share, and connect in person. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you next spring. I hope you take the opportunity to represent this vibrant community next year.
