It’s been an exciting start to 2022 for the Co-design Center for Quantum Advantage (C2QA). We kicked off an affiliates program to network with institutions whose interests and focus serve to advance scientific and technological innovations in Quantum Information Science. We’re happy to announce that Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) has joined the Center as our first affiliate. This partnership will strengthen our synergies with their work on diamond growth!

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) has officially become a member collaborator. Recently joining the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at UIC, Principal Investigator Thomas Searles will continue his excellent work on quantum devices at his new home. Welcome to PPPL and UIC!

We’ve had a number of exciting honors as well. Sophia Economou was recently elected Vice Chair of the Division of Quantum Information for the American Physical Society (APS). You can read more about her work on generating microwave graph states in this editions’ science spotlight. And Michel Devoret recently won the Micius Prize for Quantum Information. Congrats Sophia and Michel!

We continue to produce great science as a Center. So far, we have published 31 papers, with another 44 on arXiv, and the degree of collaboration is truly special. The collaboration has been turbocharged in recent months with our reboot of XCITe, the Center’s cross-cutting interdisciplinary team. This effort is led by Chair Mark Ritter at IBM, with Ike Chuang at MIT serving as Vice Chair, and new Center postdoc Michael DeMarco playing a critical role. If you are looking for ways to get more scientifically engaged in multidisciplinary work within the Center, XCITe is a great place to start. Principal Investigator’s interested in getting involved in XCITe can do so by contacting Mark and Ike and expressing an interest on how their contribution will enhance the team’s efforts towards meeting the four cross-thrust challenges.

As the science continues to progress, reporting inventions and new discoveries will be important. For questions on Intellectual Property (IP) reporting requirements, refer to your Intellectual Property Management Plan (IPMP) or contact c2qa-ip@brookhavenLab.onmicrosoft.com.

Finally, there are always ways to get involved with the Center through our efforts in outreach and workforce development. If you’re interested in getting involved or volunteering for an event or opportunity, contact Diana Murphy, C2QA Outreach, Education, and Workforce Development Leader.
