On March 23rd, we invite the postdoc community to a meeting hosted by C2QA Deputy Director, Kai-Mei Fu, and Howard University Integration of Research in Education Assistant Director, Tina Brower-Thomas. We will announce a seed funding opportunity, allow the postdocs to get to know each other, and have them participate in a poll to understand their professional development needs. We would like to support our postdocs in obtaining the skills they need to succeed in their careers.

Planning for our summer activities is in full swing. We are searching for mentors from our community to host a student through the Department of Energy (DOE) Science Undergraduate Laboratory Research program. It provides our partners the opportunity to have additional resources at no cost and to influence more students to pursue careers in the quantum information science (QIS) field.

We will be hosting three virtual summer schools in 2022. Sophia Economou from Virginia Tech will, again, run the High School Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) Summer School from August 1-4. Students will explore the basic principles that underlie quantum technologies and gain an appreciation for what novel capabilities are unlocked by quantum mechanics. Dave Biersach will lead our second Quantum Computing Summer School where students will be introduced to quantum computing by utilizing hands-on programming labs, quantum algorithms, and exposure to IBM-Qiskit from June 6-July 15. The QIS Summer School on Characterization, Verification, and Validation is a new program created by Steve Girvin from Yale University and Nathan Wiebe from University of Toronto. It will provide advanced undergraduate, graduate, and postdocs in C2QA with the knowledge needed to understand and characterize noise processes and decoherence in quantum hardware. It will be held from August 8-19.
